I started up running a few months ago in my old everyday trainers, i did end up getting injured, but i was determined to get back into it after i fell in love with cruising along to the beat of my mp3. I invested in some proper running shoes and am absolutely Loving running along an open road either early in the morning or late at night when its nice and cool and nobody is around.

Good article. I don't know why that "breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth" idea still exists in running though. If you are really pushing yourself, it's a lot harder to run that way. Something should also be said about shoes since people don't realize that you'll get injured in about a month if you don't have proper shoes.

So true, Frank! People are stunned by the thought of running a marathon, but I seriously think anyone can do it with enough dedication and training. At least 75% of distance running is psychological. I've experienced this myself so many times running marathons and half-marathons--so much of the experience is about your state of mind, and so many of the people who run those races are not your stereotypical bouncy, slim, lean-turkey-sandwich-eating type people.

The greatest thing about distance running is that once you've done it enough, it is like therapy, and you can lose yourself in it entirely. On a good run I get into this out-of-body state and I'm just sailing along, and afterwards it feels so good.

Also, you can do it anywhere! I've run in Chinese parks and Bolivian riverbeds and through the streets of so many cities early in the morning. It's a great way to experience a local place.

people, he knows what he is talking about. I took his advice, and can now run a mile without stopping for the first time in my life. A mile isn't much, but it's a big deal to me. I used to hate running, but now it is an addiction! Believe you can do it, and you will. Thanks to Frank.

I really enjoy running but have never taken on a long distance (longer than, say, 10k). This is more motivation to give it a go.
